Boston
Cricket Club have completed a hugely successful season at The Mayflower. The
First XI finished second in SLBL Division One and subject to their application
being rubber-stamped at the forthcoming AGM, should be promoted back to the
Lincolnshire ECB Premier League at the first attempt. Winners Billingborough
have been deemed ineligible for promotion, paving the way for BostonŠö return
to Premier League cricket. The two
Sunday XIs both won their respective divisions, with the First XI sealing
promotion into the Premier Division for 2009, while the Second XI progressed
into Division Two. The
Saturday Second XI finished fourth in SLBL Division Two, while the Third XI
completed the season in SLBL Division Three in third place ?a fantastic
season all round! Jonathan

respectively. Cheer chalked up 1,850 runs, while Thirkell reached the
80-wicket mark for the first time in his career. Full

Saturday
(July 5) will see the First XI aiming to bounce back to winning ways against
title rivals Billingborough. Following their surprise 92-run defeat to Belton
Park last Saturday, Boston have slipped to third in the SLBL Divison One
table ?the first time they have dropped out of pole position this season.
However, a victory over Billingborough would boost BostonŠö title hopes and
put them back on the winning trail. The
First XI restricted Belton Park to 196-7, but were then bowled out for just
104 in reply. In their preceding two fixtures, Boston beat Long Sutton off
the last ball of a tense game at Paradise Field, before seeing their
scheduled fixture against Woodhall Spa washed out. The
Second XI were 21-run victors over Thomas Cook last weekend. Josh Butler
(5-53) and Tim Taylor (74) starred with ball and bat respectively as Boston
shrugged off defeats to Spalding and Sleaford in the weeks leading up to
their second victory of the season. The

Boston CC first XI pulled off a shock result in the
quarter-finals of the Winkworth Cup, the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier

Boston defeated Messingham by 19 runs to win a place in the semi-finals on
August 25. Having already defeated fellow South Lincolnshire and
Border League team Oakham in the first round, Boston hit 291 for five at

Boston
CC first XI recorded a sixth straight South Lincs and Border League Division
One success when securing a dramatic 26-run away win over near neighbours and
arch rivals Sleaford. Taking
first knock, Boston had a somewhat inconsistent time with the bat with Rick Drury
and Lee Brooks leading the runs total by reaching 40 and 30 respectively in
an all out score of 152. In reply, everything seemed to be going against
Boston, as Sleaford appeared to be cantering towards their victory target. At
one point, the home side stood at 95-2. But BostonŠö bowlers stuck to their
task superbly and managed to skittle out their hosts for 126 with all of the
visiting attack sharing in the sudden wickets feast. Boston
seconds tackled Oakham seconds away and in an exciting and close-fought match
lost by a slender one-wicket margin. A
largely youthful and inexperienced Boston third XI took on Spalding seconds
and found the going tough on a testing pitch. Boston were all out for just
53. In reply Spalding reached their target for the loss of four wickets. One
highlight for Boston was the three-wicket haul for young bowler Raj Bains. On
Sunday, Boston firsts saw their scheduled home Division One clash against Old
Lincolnians washed out by rain. The
Sunday seconds hot the road to Lincoln to face Bracebridge Heath in a Major
Hoult Cup tie. The home side rattled up a score of 300 in their allotted
overs. Boston were 30-1 in reply when rain halted proceedings. Due to the
vast difference in the teams?scoring rate at the time of abandonment, the
match was awarded to Bracebridge. |
